Resolved
NO

Veteran starting pitchers Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander began the 2023 season with the New York Mets, and prior to the Major League Baseball trade deadline, both were traded to the Texas Rangers (Scherzer) and the Houston Astros (Verlander).

With both teams potentially winning the American League West division and having strong enough current records to qualify for a wild card spot for the team that does not win the division, MLB fans have the potential to see these two pitchers start against one another in the postseason.

Despite having been on opposing teams in the 2019 World Series, Scherzer and Verlander have not been opposing starters in the same postseason game.

Resolves YES if any MLB postseason game features Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander as opposing starting pitchers. Minimum 1 pitch thrown. If either pitcher is slated to start but is scratched due to injury, this market resolves NO.

Other NO resolutions:

  • Either Texas Rangers and/or Houston Astros fail to make the 2023 MLB postseason

  • Max Scherzer and/or Justin Verlander are declared ineligible for the 2023 MLB postseason or are not added to their teams' postseason roster (injury, suspension, etc)

Stinks that this wasn’t meant to be a storybook Game 7. But this series has been wild as fuck. Resolving NO

Verlander v Montgomery again for Game 5 tonight.

@ItzNetwork Damn. Forget the Game 7 pipe dream then, unless Verlander wants to pretend he’s 25 or some shit

@LBeesley And Minute Maid Park has a roof, so can't even get rainouts.

Scherzer is active for the ALCS, but game 1 will be Montgomery vs Verlander. Not impossible that Scherzer starts game 5 against Verlander, but doesn't seem likely. Schedule weirdness with postponed games could also happen.

Hard to believe, but this isn’t completely out of the cards if the Astros finish off the Twins this week.
