Win totals reflected above are current prior to games scheduled for 8/26/2024*.
Set close of this market to September 6, 2024, but I will watch this weekend’s games closely to resolve following the first team to 82 wins as soon as possible.
Edit, 8/12/2024: Something I didn’t account for is the possibility of two or more teams reaching their 82nd win on the same day. While it will be tricky for me, I will monitor times of day for teams in this race and will resolve based on games’ start time and finish time.
Example: The Philadelphia Phillies and New York Yankees have 81 wins on September 1, 2024. Phillies are scheduled to play the Washington Nationals in Philadelphia at 1 pm ET, and the Yankees are scheduled to play the Arizona Diamondbacks in Arizona at 2:30 pm at whatever the fuck time it is in Arizona on September 1. Phillies/Nationals game goes into extra innings, and the barn burner goes to 23 innings and goes for 8 hours and 34 minutes, finishing at 9:35 ET, with the Phillies winning on a Kyle Schwarber walk off. Yankees and Diamondbacks finish in regulation with the Yankees’ Luis Gil going the distance and only throwing 93 pitches in a 2-0 shutout that lasts 2 hours and 46 minutes, finishing at 5:16 AZT or 8:16 ET.
In this case, while the Yankees started later but finished first with a win, I would resolve this for the Yankees.

Just checked the scores.
Brewers have a 3-run lead, so they have a little hope.
Yankees have lost, stuck at 79.
Phillies are up 1-0 but the Braves have a runner on.
Dodgers and Diamondbacks have just started, but it’s 4-3 DBacks after the 1st inning. (Edit: the Suarez* sac fly happened the minute I posted this comment)
Does no one want 82 wins?? Lol
@LBeesley not quite, but the dodgers did eek it out after-all from some clutch 9th inning bats
This could be the final update on this market, so I'm posting ahead of the scheduled MLB games.
Los Angeles Dodgers, 81 wins - The Dodgers play at Arizona at 7:10 pm local time. A Dodgers win resolves this market. Dodgers are in the midst of a 3-game winning streak.
Milwaukee Brewers, 79 wins - The Brew Crew play at Cincinnati at 6:15 pm. The Brewers have won their last four games but will need a three-game swing to be the first to 82.
New York Yankees, 79 wins - Yanks host the Cardinals on the noon game today. They won their most recent game and are 6-4 in their last 10. Will need a lot of help getting to 82 first, but not impossible.
Philadelphia Phillies, 79 wins - The Phillies host the Atlanta Braves tonight at 6:15 pm. They dropped their game against the Braves yesterday and failed to join the Dodgers as the only teams to win 80 games before the weekend.
@LBeesley LA 🧹
Edit: forgot it was Saturday, but sure, I’ll call LA taking the whole series now
Open question: if no team reaches 82 wins by Saturday, should I still let the market close then? Or would you prefer I extend it to September 7, 2024?
As it stands, only the Dodgers have a shot to hit 82 by 8/31. The Yankees (78 wins) are off tonight and play two through Saturday, and the Phillies, also at 78, play three but can only reach 81.
Please respond to this comment on if you prefer I extend or let the market close 8/31 and let the market resolve based on where teams’ percentages stand at closing.
Copied from my 100-win market since it’s relevant here:
This is some of the craziest parity I’ve seen in my lifetime. Several of these teams were easily on pace for 100+, but currently the top teams are on pace for 94-95. Below are the teams with 70+ wins, even if they aren’t in the market explicitly (projected win total for 162 games at their current win % in parentheses):
Philadelphia Phillies, 73 wins (95-96)
Baltimore Orioles, 73 wins (94-95)
Los Angeles Dodgers, 73 wins (94-95)
New York Yankees, 73 wins (94-95)
Cleveland Guardians, 72 wins (94)
Milwaukee Brewers, 72 wins (94)
Minnesota Twins, 70 wins (91-92)
San Diego Padres, 70 wins (90-91)
Several of these teams will get hot and get to 82 within the next two weeks; I just find it surprising that the top of the league is a broad environment of possibilities with a few standout names alongside the usual suspects, but no clear powerhouse standing above the rest in the win column. This market, unlike the loss market where it’s likely going to be the Rockies or the Marlins crossing 82 losses second after the White Sox, could go to any of the eight teams listed above.
Beginning the week of August 12, 2024, the following teams lead the chase for 82:
70 wins - Baltimore Orioles, New York Yankees
69 wins - Cleveland Guardians, Philadelphia Phillies
68 wins - Los Angeles Dodgers*
67 wins - Milwaukee Brewers
