As of January 11, 2024 Vanguard customers are not allowed to buy these ETF's in their own stock accounts. Resolves YES if they can, or if IBIT disappears but some other bitcoin ETF takes its place that can be purchased.

If customers can buy a spot ETF through a Vanguard oversight (e.g. some new small one launches that their software hasn't banned yet) this won't resolve YES. This will not resolve YES if Microstrategy has some ETF strategy, it has to be a stock ticker that is launched as an index fund.

I have a vanguard 401k where the self-directed portion was outsourced to TDAmeritrade/Schwab and I was able to trade GBTC on there. YOLOed into it at a large discount to NAV and sold when the ETF conversion happened.

I’m not sure how to phrase the rule in this case but I’m going to say this doesn’t count.

Why the specific focus on BITO? That seems to be a Bitcoin futures ETF, which is different from (and has been allowed for longer than) the newly launched spot ETFs.

@lxgr Oh, sorry, I just searched on Google for what I thought was the most popular one. I'll edit the question.

@lxgr Doesn't matter. It's not happening regardless.
