The Type 83 destroyer is a planned class of warship that is currently under development by the British Royal Navy. It is intended to be a successor to the Type 45 AAW destroyer and is designed to be a cutting-edge, multi-mission platform capable of operating in the most challenging environments. The Type 83 destroyer is expected to be larger and more capable than its predecessor, with a range of advanced features including enhanced stealth capabilities, advanced sensors and weapons systems, and increased automation. It is expected to be equipped with a range of offensive and defensive capabilities, including anti-ship and land-attack missiles, torpedoes, and advanced air defense systems. The Type 83 destroyer is expected to enter service in the mid-2030s.

The Royal Navy has six Type 45 destroyers. If it plans to commission more than six Type 83s, this would represent a naval expansion.

Resolves on a concrete announcement from the Secretary of State for Defence. Please note such plans can and do change - this market is concerned with intention. If the Type 83 is cancelled and a replacement destroyer programme is announced in its place, this question will apply to that instead.
