YES

The CR929 is a wide-body, long-range commercial aircraft jointly developed by the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) and the Russian United Aircraft Corporation (UAC). Announced in 2014, the CR929 represents a collaboration between China and Russia to create a competitive offering in the wide-body aircraft market, challenging the dominance of Boeing and Airbus. The CR929 aims to accommodate approximately 280 to 300 passengers and has a projected range of around 12,000 kilometers. This twin-aisle aircraft is designed to incorporate advanced aerodynamics, fuel efficiency, and passenger comfort features. The CR929 program brings together the expertise and resources of both countries, leveraging their manufacturing capabilities and technological prowess. It symbolizes the strategic partnership between China and Russia in the aerospace industry, promoting international cooperation and mutual development. With the CR929, COMAC and UAC aim to cater to the increasing demand for long-haul travel, offering a reliable and technologically advanced aircraft that meets the evolving needs of airlines and passengers worldwide.

Last month, it was reported that Russia is ceasing participation in the project due to sanctions over its invasion of Ukraine. There is still a lack of clarity about exactly what has happened and what this means.

The CR929 project is very far from completion and it's very questionable that China will shoulder all the development and essentially share the credit with Russia. However, they might be inclined to do that for geopolitical reasons.

COMAC have switched to calling it the C929 which is enough for me.

Getting close to YES, but I still want to see it on the COMAC website

@JoshuaWilkes No hurry. I agree

@HanchiSun I had missed this article. Unfortunately I can't find the original quote in the Shanghai Observer. However, I'm not sure it's giving a full picture.

COMAC's English website still uses the name CR929 (their Chinese website seems to have something that prevents me from fully accessing it but what I can see doesn't mention either name).

Wikipedia's Chinese language article says that it was always the C929 domestically* and the CR929 internationally, and doesn't suggest that has changed.

*I was not aware of this

At current state of play I will not resolve YES. It's not obvious why Global Times used that name, but it's certainly reasonable for the market to respond to it

If they rename it, they wil probably rename it to something else completely

@Odoacre Disagree, I think China is going to stick with the C9x9 format to sit alongside A3x0 and B7x7. But they might skip C929 I suppose
