Countries can still exist to an extent but would be in operation under one "Global" power, governing and overseeing the trading and laws and rules, making sure the counties are all abiding by the world government, and using the one-world currency.
Resolution Criteria
This market resolves YES if by December 31, 2039, there exists a single global governmental authority that:
Exercises direct or binding oversight over the laws, regulations, and governance of substantially all countries (defined as 90%+ of ALL counties globally)
Enforces compliance through mechanisms that supersede national sovereignty
Implements and enforces a single currency used as the primary medium of exchange across these territories
Resolution will be determined by examining World Economic Forum proposals, major news sources, and the practical implementation of these systems. Countries may retain local administrative structures, but ultimate authority must rest with the global entity. If no such system exists by the deadline, the market resolves NO.
Background
Current international governance structures like the UN, IMF, and World Bank lack enforcement mechanisms to compel national compliance or currency adoption. The eurozone represents the closest existing model of coordinated currency and governance, but operates among only 20 EU member states and does not constitute a world government. Most proposals for global governance remain theoretical or limited to specific policy domains (trade, climate, etc.) rather than comprehensive political authority.
Considerations
This outcome would represent an unprecedented consolidation of political power. Historical attempts at empire-building have consistently fragmented, and modern geopolitics features increasing decentralization and nationalist movements. The technological and logistical challenges of governing 195+ countries with vastly different cultures, economies, and interests remain substantial.
@JonathanBarankin I agree with you actually! However, after the last presidency, I can see how quickly a POWERFUL nation can become almost unredeemable. If Kamala became president after Biden, I cannot fathom those implications. For example: https://ifapray.org/blog/mexican-leaders-view-migration-as-a-tool-to-conquer-americas-southwest/
