Background
The Florida Commissioner of Agriculture and Consumer Services is a cabinet-level constitutional office. The primary election is scheduled for August 18, 2026, followed by the general election on November 3, 2026.
Matt Taylor, a welder and mechanic who gained a following on social media for his commentary on Florida politics, land development, and environmental issues, has filed to run for the position as a Republican. He has previously campaigned for other offices, including a brief run for Governor and a bid for the Hillsborough County Commission in 2024. As of early 2026, the status of potential challengers, including the incumbent Wilton Simpson, remains subject to change as candidates officially qualify and file paperwork by the state-mandated deadlines.
