Freebie: your application to Harvard and every effort you've put in is a sunk cost. Every competitive school, job, whatever I've ever been in or known of has a lot of amazing people, a few dullards who are there for some unfair-ish reason, and a couple people who aren't all that amazing in any discernible way who somehow got in even though I could think of half a dozen better more deserving candidates who didn't get in.
