I'm under the impression that there's a common issue in physically abusive relationships where the abused party (stereotypically the woman) denies the abuse and defends their partner. I recently came across a friend who was entirely unaware of this trope, and thought that all abused people were unhappy about their own abuse and acknowledged it as such. I'd like to send my friend (and also read myself) an article or blog post that investigates how common this phenomenon actually is, and talks about the psychological causes and social ramifications of the phenomenon; a good general summary of the issue. Ideally it's aimed towards someone significantly smarter and more interested in detailed information than the average person, but doesn't require any technical background knowledge. (e.g. a typical SSC post or Wikipedia article.)
