I have set a strategic goal to start a family before Singularity happens, with a provisional deadline by the end of 2027.
The question resolves YES if, by the end of 2027, I am married, or I have proposed and the woman I proposed to said yes.
Relevant context: I was in 4 long-term relationships in my life (2-4 years each, and one 6 months). Mostly, it took me 1-2 months to find a new relationship after the previous one broke. The largest gap was 9 months. But! Now I am looking explicitly for a wife, not just a relationship. I have never yet found a wife.
I have been single since early August 2026, and no one seems to be willing to start a relationship with me right now.

1,000@ChurlishGambit 1. If my model of the future is wrong, it would be very awkward to avoid having children because of the fears of something that doesn't occur. This is the same as many other potentially useful things by the way: technical AI safety is probably not going to work out, but it would be very stupid to stop working on it in the case if reality is such that it actually can work out. What if some technical solutions, eventually, appear more feasible than it seems? What if timelines appear longer than it seems? Then it would be awkward and undignified if I stopped working and the world came to an end not because reality was harsh but because people expected reality to be harsh and henceforth stopped working. 2. Purely intuitively, on the level of my immediate preferences, I want children, and I think it is ok. I have a strong fatherly instinct, which reveals itself in many forms. I think I will enjoy having children even on a purely hedonistic level and will be a very loving father. Additionally to that, I have a lot of takes on how to bring up genius children, and the desire to make smart children is yet another manifestation of my transhumanist ideology. I think, paired with a proper wife, I have a non-negligible chance of bringing Kwisatz Haderach of Rationality to the world. 3. I think it is still net positive to have more people in the world, unless timelines are extremely short. 4. I just want it. Even if I die, I just want to feel the joy of being a parent. 5. I think children often make people more productive because they make them quit the period of delayed adolescence, which now usually lasts well into 30s.
@IhorKendiukhov It sounds like you actually are not that confident in the Singularity, do you know what I mean? It's like someone who is very confident the Rapture is about to happen...but they don't want to give up their house or any possessions. If the Rapture is going to happen tomorrow, you don't need them, so why keep them? You're doing the same thing, but instead of calling it "the Rapture," you call yours "the Singularity."

That is not rational thinking...& also, in the books, that doesn't work out so well!
