Dow Constantine, four-term King County Executive, announced his retirement earlier this year, creating an open field for the first time since 2009. All elections in Washington use a top-two jungle primary system. This will be the last odd-year election for King County Executive following the passage of 2022 Charter Amendment 1, however this means that the new Executive will have a shorter, 3-year term.
