In December 2022, New Zealand banned the sale of tobacco to anyone born after January 1st, 2009 for the rest of their lives. This mean that after January 1st, 2027, residents of New Zealand will no longer be able to purchase tobacco products once they turn 18. Some have suggested that it is likely that other countries will soon follow suit with similar legislation.
Between question open, on August 22nd, 2023 and question close on January 1st, 2026, will any UN-recognized country have implemented a total ban on the sale of tobacco products to any resident born after a particular date? A complete ban on tobacco products will also be sufficient for a YES resolution, as this includes prohibition of sales to a subset of the population born after a particular date. Bhutan had previously imposed such a ban, but later repealed it. For this question, a ban that is signed into law after the creation of this question, but repealed before the closing date will still count for a YES resolution.
Resolves NO if no such ban is implemented
