Background
ClaudePlaysPokémon is an ongoing experiment where Anthropic's AI assistant Claude plays through Pokémon Red on a Game Boy emulator. Claude controls the game by pressing virtual buttons based on its understanding of the game world and objectives. The game displays an on-screen Step Count that increases as Claude thinks.
Resolution Criteria
This market will resolve based on which step count milestones the on-screen counter in ClaudePlaysPokémon reaches during the playthrough. Each answer will resolve independently:
For each milestone (50,000, 100,000, 250,000, 500,000, 1,000,000, or 2,000,000), the answer will resolve to YES if the on-screen Step Count reaches or exceeds that number at any point during the playthrough.
Each answer will resolve to NO if the ClaudePlaysPokémon experiment officially ends without reaching that milestone.
If the Step Count display becomes unavailable or is modified to count something other than steps, resolution will be based on the last verifiable count or official statements from Anthropic.
Considerations
The rate of step accumulation depends on Claude's gameplay style, which can be inconsistent. Claude sometimes gets stuck in areas or moves in circles, wasting steps.
The total step count possible in Pokémon Red varies based on gameplay choices and completion goals.
There is no guarantee that Claude will complete the game, which could affect which milestones are reached.
The experiment could potentially be terminated before Claude completes the game, which would affect resolution.
