Permanent manager (or head coach) as opposed to interim.

  • Update 2026-01-13 (PST) (AI summary of creator comment): Interim/caretaker appointments do not count - appointments "until end of season" are considered interim positions, as opposed to "N year contract" permanent positions. The market will remain open until a permanent manager is appointed.

  • Update 2026-01-14 (PST) (AI summary of creator comment): The creator will use general consensus in media and judgment of such to determine whether an appointment is interim or permanent, rather than relying solely on explicit contract length.

The announcement from United doesnt explicitly mention Carrick is appointed as an interim or caretaker manager, so I guess this should resolve to him.

@Xizted "until the end of season" is de facto an interim position, as opposed to an "N year contract." Newspapers also think so. Typically, he or someone else entirely, will be offered a permanent contract closer to, or during the summer.

Considering the latest Carrick development, this market will remain open until so.

@GazDownright Alright, so you are considering the contract length as the definition of permanent then, that makes sense.

@Xizted In as far as that's how the clubs and media like to classify these employments, yes. Perhaps a better distinction is that "until end of the season" equals interim manager.

As opposed to signing on an N year deal.

@GazDownright That is still just using the contract length as the criteria, would you have really resolved the question if United announced Carrick had signed a 0.3 year deal?

@Xizted Yes, and even more precisely: I'm using the general consensus in media and my judgment of that for whether it's a so-called interim or permanent employment.
