Will the Lord Almighty in fact drive Biden from the race?

Resolves Yes if Biden drops out and cites the Lord for the decision. Smiting counts.

If Biden stays in the race, this resolves No. If Biden drops out and takes personal responsibility for the decision, or says that his family, the Democratic Party, or other Earthly authority advised it, this also resolves No.

If Biden drops out and says the Lord Almighty (synonyms are fine) told him it was best, resolves Yes. "After careful consideration, discussions with family, and prayer, I've decided" is taking personal responsibility and is not enough to resolve Yes.

Smiting:

  • Pillar of salt

  • Lightning bolts

  • Other sudden, unexpected death or incapacitation

Not smiting:

  • "Health reasons"

  • Most forms of "I'm not dead yet"

Since this might be subjective, I won't trade in this market. Feel free to ask for clarification.

Resolves no on this statement. Discussion of party and country, no almighty.

what about heart attack?

Modern medical advances have made this a less successful smiting technique of late, but not entirely ineffective.

approximately 0% chance this happens, but I take it this resolves yes if Pope Francis urges Biden to drop out?

I think I'd want to look at the content of the relevant public statements. If the Pope makes a statement, and the Biden steps down from the race but does not mention the Pope, then that's not enough for a Yes. If the Pope says the Lord wills it, and then Biden says he's stepping down because the Pope advised it, that's a Yes. If Biden's statement treats the Pope as just one of many sources of advice, equal in prominence to other Earthly authorities, that's not enough.

If Pope Francis speaks privately to Joe Biden and is not speaking ex cathedra but makes reference to religious stuff, would that count?

Would most other definitions of an "Act of God" as seen in most insurance policies count?

I think generally yes, but it might depend on the specifics.

If Biden is making statements afterwards, this will mostly depend on those statements, not the events leading up to them.

I wouldn't want to resolve on the basis of a mere attempted smiting, after all.

What if I consider the DNC to be emissaries of the Lord's will?
