They think it's important not to appear to be wishing to change history
They do not wish to mis-wish someone who has had to work all day and gates their job and therefore cannot have a good day on net at this point
"have a good day" is too old-fashioned sounding
Genuinely asking, not curmudgeon or troll
It's so ungainly compared to a simple thank you or have a nice day
