It is notable that Lumina came about pretty much by accident - they didn't engineer it from scratch, some professor found it in his student's mouths by accident. If it were easy to just make, I'm sure other's have had the idea and it would have been done earlier.

I think it'd need to claim to and actually replace your native bacteria with a less smelly version, permanently, with only one or very infrequent reapplications,
