The climbing season of 2023 at Mount Everest has been very deadly with 17 reported deaths according to mainstream reporting.
The 30 year average (1993-2022) of the amount of annual deaths is 6.2 climbers deaths per year.
The 2023 season was especially dangerous due to a large number of climbers, bad weather and low level of tourist climber preparedness.
The question now is if new safety initiatives during 2024 will bring down the number of deaths to or bellow the long term average.
The main climbing season is in April-May. The bet will be tracking until the final day of June 2024 to cover the full spring season.
