Resolution Criteria

This market resolves to YES if Gordon Ryan competes in any official grappling competition (including but not limited to ADCC, WNO, or CJI) after the creation date of this market. It resolves to NO if Gordon dies or gets old (defined as age 35). Exhibition matches don't count.

Background

Gordon Ryan is widely regarded as the greatest no-gi jiu jitsu practitioner of all time. Since 2018, he has been battling severe stomach issues that have significantly limited his competition schedule. These health problems stem from complications related to repeated antibiotic treatments for staph infections, resulting in a condition that affects his ability to absorb nutrients.

He has withdrawn from several high-profile matches in recent years due to health setbacks, including a severe case of strep throat in 2023 that required extensive antibiotic treatment and a tonsillectomy.

Considerations

Ryan's health situation remains fluid, with periods of improvement followed by relapses. Recently his coach John Danaher expressed doubt about whether he would ever compete again.
