It is widely reported that Gavin Newsom will pick Laphonza Butler as the interim Senator for the remainder of Feinstein's term. It was previously reported that the person whom he choose would only hold the position on an interim basis, and would not run, but reports indicated he had changed his mind on that stance in the past few days.
If Butler announces she is NOT running, or not planning to run for the seat, within the next week, this will expire as YES.
If she announces she IS running, or doesn't announce a decision and says she is still deciding (or anything else that is borderline!), then this will expire as NO. Pretty much anything except "I am not running" or some variation of that will lead to a NO expiration.

Her initial statement makes no mention of running (or not running) in 2024. The plot thickens.
