Germany declares officially they are paying for Russian gas exclusively in roubles (RUB)
Apr 16, 8:48pm: @JonathanMohrbacher The "buy through Gazprombank" scheme doesn't have any effect on payments from the POV of the buyers. That is merely the Russian government forcing Gazprom to convert euros to roubles.
I will only resolve the market if a new contract/agreement is signed which requires payments for gas in RUB.

@DanCirnat how will you resolve this market if Germany does what's outlined in the "buy through Gazprombank" plan where they deposit euros in a special Gazprombank account, and then Gazprombank buys rubles on their behalf to pay for the gas? https://www.dw.com/en/russia-gas-payments-must-be-made-via-russian-bank-accounts/a-61319393
Exclusively in rubles seems improbable. I'm not even convinced that Russia is going to want rubles in the short term - nobody is willing to accept theirs except their domestic vendors, and with their capital markets impeded selling their exports for their own currency seems like it'd be shooting themselves in the foot. Maybe there's some kind of petrodollar voodoo they can try to leverage to boost demand for their rubles? I think it's doubtful, though.
