Monero (XMR) Historical Data: https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/monero/historical_data
Background
Zcash (ZEC) and Monero (XMR) are prominent cryptocurrencies focused on providing privacy for their users' transactions. Zcash utilizes zk-SNARKs technology to enable optional privacy, allowing users to choose between transparent and shielded (private) transactions. In contrast, Monero implements mandatory privacy for all transactions, employing techniques such as ring signatures, stealth addresses, and RingCT to obscure transaction details like sender, receiver, and amount by default. This difference in approach results in Monero having a consistently larger anonymity set due to its default privacy, while Zcash offers flexibility that may appeal to users requiring compliance options.
Considerations
The market capitalization of cryptocurrencies, including Zcash and Monero, is highly volatile and influenced by numerous factors such as technological developments, adoption rates, overall market sentiment, and macroeconomic conditions. Both privacy coins have faced regulatory scrutiny due to their anonymity features, which could impact their availability on exchanges and overall market performance. Traders should be aware that the chosen data source, CoinGecko, aggregates data from various exchanges to calculate market capitalization, and its methodology, while widely accepted, is a key factor in the market's resolution.
