Will I be able to play Celeste on my iPhone in 2023?

I'm gotten a couple Celeste recommendations, so I'm vaguely interested in playing it. However, I don't have Steam, and mostly play video games on my iPhone. From what I can tell, Celeste doesn't have an app right now.

If I can technically play Celeste on my phone in 2023 but it's through a really complicated procedure, it won't count. What counts as "really complicated" is up to my judgement. I'd rather just download it from the App Store.

General policy for my markets: In the rare event of a conflict between my resolution criteria and the agreed-upon common-sense spirit of the market, I may resolve it according to the market's spirit or N/A, probably after discussion.

You can buy Celeste on Steam and stream the game to your phone using the Steam Link app. You do need to be in range of your PC for it to work, but I wouldn't describe the process as complicated.

@Maybe357

  • I don't have Steam

  • I don't have a PC

  • The point of playing on my phone is to be able to do it when I'm not near my computer

@Conflux Yeah, that sounds like an obstacle. Maybe you should play Candy Crush instead; it starts with the same letter, at least.

predictedNO 2y

@Maybe357 lol, I’ll keep it in mind if I’m ever stranded with covid in france or something

2y

@Conflux (wow. targeted.) anyway Candy Crush is an excellent distraction for if you’re stuck in a hotel room in france for a week while having covid. it is terrible in every other situation and will make your life awful

Clarification: if Celeste gets back to Game Pass and is included in Cloud Gaming, does that count as a "really complicated procedure"?

predictedNO 2y

@vmjusto I don’t know how it works, so maybe or maybe not. I don’t want to pay.

predictedNO 2y

@Conflux I guess I’d count it if it was paid from the App Store?

2y

@Conflux Game Pass is a Microsoft Xbox service that works as a Netflix for games. Celeste used to be part of it and it could be included again in the service. You would have to pay 9.99 USD monthly for the service (first month it would be 1 USD). Then you would only need to use the Cloud Gaming app on your iPhone or iPad.

It is a relatively costly process considering you could buy the game for PC for 10 bucks in several stores (it is not a Steam exclusive), and it is hypothetical because it depends on Celeste going back on the catalogue, but I would not describe it as a complicated procedure -- it is as easy as streaming a specific movie from a specific service.

If this does not count, then I would feel comfortable pushing this all the way down to zero percent.

@vmjusto Also, consider this option (I didn't know about this until doing research for your question):

@vmjusto I’ll say that Game Pass would count, that doesn’t sound too complicated. I wouldn’t do it, because it costs money, but I didn’t put “free” in my resolution criteria, so I’ll say it counts.
