Background
The United Soccer League (USL) is currently working to establish itself as a major player in American professional soccer. In February 2024, the USL Super League (women's division) already received Division One sanctioning from the U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF). For the men's side, the USL has announced plans to launch a new Division One men's professional league in the 2027-28 timeframe.
To receive Division One sanctioning from USSF, leagues must meet specific criteria including:
Having at least 12 member clubs
Clubs must be in metropolitan areas with populations of at least 1 million
Stadiums must meet certain capacity and facility requirements
Financial stability and other operational standards
Resolution Criteria
This market will resolve as YES if the United Soccer League receives official Division One sanctioning from the U.S. Soccer Federation for its men's professional league at any point before January 1, 2030.
The market will resolve as NO if:
The USL fails to receive Division One sanctioning by December 31, 2029
The USL abandons its plans to pursue Division One status
The USL receives a different classification that is not officially Division One
Official confirmation must come from either the USSF or the USL through official channels or widely reported by major sports news outlets.
