Resolves Yes if, by the end of the first season of Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, it is confirmed that the "Stranger" who falls to earth in a meteor in the first episode is actually Gandalf. Confirmation has to involve him actually going by the name "Gandalf".

It was suggested to me that I should wait a few days to resolve this to avoid spoilers, if I haven't come back to this by Monday, someone remind me.

I haven't read the Silmarillion (and that seems increasingly irrelevant as I read online discussions anyway) but my gut feeling was that he'd turn out to be Radagast for some reason?

If he is Gandalf I think he'll probably go by Olórin, which I would expect will resolve this to NO

@FRCassarino Good point. Although I think there is also the possibility that the showrunners will use Gandalf anyway to avoid confusing the audience

if it resolves yes then I know that it is can be treated as Hobbit IV
