Background
Alexandre de Moraes is a Brazilian Supreme Court Justice who has been at the center of controversy regarding his rulings on social media content moderation in Brazil. He has issued orders requiring platforms like X (formerly Twitter) to remove certain content and suspend accounts, leading to tensions with U.S. tech companies and their owners, including Elon Musk.
In response to these actions, some U.S. lawmakers have called for sanctions against Justice de Moraes. Congressman Rich McCormick and others have formally requested that the U.S. government take action against him, citing concerns about freedom of speech and what they perceive as judicial overreach.
Trump Media & Technology Group (which owns Truth Social) and Rumble have filed lawsuits in U.S. federal court against Justice de Moraes, alleging his orders violate the First Amendment.
