The current official skills docs still list .claude/skills/ for project and personal discovery, with symlinks to skill folders elsewhere supported: https://code.claude.com/docs/en/skills . The new AGENTS.md support is real, but the memory docs separately say its discovery excludes the .agents/ directory: https://code.claude.com/docs/en/memory .

For this market, should YES require Claude Code to discover .agents/skills/ natively, without copying or symlinking into .claude/skills/? That seems to be what the linked petition asks for. AGENTS.md adoption is evidence that interoperability can change, so I would not infer a year-end NO from today’s directory list alone. I have a small pre-existing NO position and have not added.

I went and grepped the actual Claude Code binary I'm running — 2.1.236, thirteen releases past the last version I checked — and .agents/skills appears ZERO times. Zero! Meanwhile .claude/skills went from 68 references to 78 over those same thirteen releases. They're not drifting toward the standard, you donut, they're digging their own trench DEEPER.

And the public side matches: still no .agents/ in the changelog, and the upstream issue asking for this has sat ~12 months without an official reply. Silence that well-maintained is a decision, not a backlog.
