Resolution criteria

This market will resolve to "Yes" if, by December 31, 2026, the Supreme Court of the United States issues a ruling that explicitly prohibits the use of nationwide injunctions by lower federal courts. The ruling must clearly limit the authority of these courts to issue injunctions that apply beyond the parties directly involved in a case.

  • Update 2025-05-16 (PST) (AI summary of creator comment): To satisfy the criterion that a ruling (which is not an explicit ban) 'must clearly limit the authority of these courts to issue injunctions that apply beyond the parties directly involved in a case':

    • The ruling must impose an obvious restriction that prohibits unilateral action by district courts when issuing such injunctions.

Might need to specify just how much “limit” is needed before it counts as “prohibit.” Like, what if the SC rules that lower courts must get a three-judge panel to make a national injunction? That’s a limit, but not a prohibition, I guess?

@Tsunombie If the ruling is not an explicit ban, it must have an obvious restriction that prohibits unilateral action on the part of district courts.
