Manchester City have struggled domestically in the last few weeks, losing each of the 3 matches they have been without their midfield general, Rodri (as a result of a red card). The opposition managers have exploited this gap in their midfield, giving rise to the notion that he is the most important player in a City team that completed the treble last season. The upside to this drop in form is that it is likely now over, with Rodri set to return from suspension against Brighton this weekend. While Brighton are a tough opponent and have shown that they are more than capable of going toe to toe and even beating statistically bigger teams, it is damning that in the last 10 matches between both teams, Brighton has only been able to best City once - a 3-2 win where City was leading 2-0 at some point, whilst having a red card. These matches have only seen 1 draw too, with all other 8 matches being won by City. Brighton's recent form is also less than complimentary - 3 losses and 2 draws in the last 6 matches across all competitions. Both teams would be looking to prove a point but truly City are the overwhelming favorites.

Manchester City's commencement to the 2023/24 Premier League season hasn't quite lived up to their typically high standards. Historically, they've demonstrated a knack for slow starts, but once they gain momentum, they've been nearly unstoppable in their pursuit of the Premier League title. However, this season feels different. With several key departures and new additions, this isn't the same dominant Manchester City we've grown accustomed to. Their recent back-to-back league losses underscore this sentiment. Compounding their challenges, they're currently without three pivotal players from their previous campaign, though there's hope they might return post the international break.

On the other side, Brighton and Hove Albion, often dubbed the "Underdogs", or also known as the club which Todd Boehly was actually supposed to buy instead of Chelsea. Under the guidance of Robert De Zerbi, Brighton has evolved into an exhilarating and occasionally unpredictable side. Given their current form and City's vulnerabilities, it is conceivable that Brighton could march into the Etihad and hand Manchester City their third consecutive league defeat, a feat not seen by the Citizens since 2016.
