Basic Information
I submitted an MIT Early Action application for the Class of 2028 and was deferred. Will I make MIT in Regular Action? I am a junior applying one year early.
This market resolves YES if I get admitted to MIT in Regular Action and it resolves NO if I get rejected from MIT in Regular Action. If I get waitlisted, the market will remain open until one of these events occurs. It will resolve N/A if some circumstance prevents either of the two aforementioned events from occurring (e.g. MIT ceases to be a university), although I don't expect this to occur.
You may ask in the comments about my application; if it is not too personal (e.g. SSN) and I remember what I put in my application I will answer your question in the description. Just make sure your question isn't already answered here.
Questions and Answers
Example: What is your intended major?
Math.
Example: What is your SAT score? What is your GPA?
My SAT score is 1590; I have 4.00 UW and 4.53 W GPA.
For unweighted GPA, I'm using the system where A = 4, B = 3, C = 2, D = 1, + and - add and subtract 1/3 (except A+ does nothing). For the weighted GPA, I am adding 0.5 for honors classes and 1 for AP classes.
Do you have stellar extracurriculars? What are your leadership positions or awards?
Extracurriculars (and corresponding awards):
Physics competitions: This is minor; I qualified for USAPhO and got an Honorable Mention (top 200) but I didn't get much farther.
MIT PRIMES (math research program): I did a group project with two other students.
Math competitions:
My highest AMC score is 144; my highest AIME score is 13.
I've gotten one silver medal and one gold medal on USAMO.
I've qualified for MOP twice: blue MOP in 2022 and black MOP in 2023.
I've qualified for TST group twice.
I occasionally do well in other computational math contests.
I would say that the last two are stellar: it is really difficult to get into PRIMES or MOP.
My main leadership position is as a coach for my middle school's MATHCOUNTS team. The school did not have a MATHCOUNTS team before me; I've been coaching for four years.
How strong would you say your recommendation letters were?
My humanities recommender was my US History teacher. Out of her four sections that year, I was her highest-performing student.
My STEM recommender was my AP Physics C teacher. I was probably one of the best students in her teaching career. (I made USAPhO in a school where physics competitions aren't popular, so this isn't a surprise.)
I had a third recommender, which was a college professor from an average college that taught me Real Analysis. I did really well in the class overall, getting a very solid A (A+ doesn't exist).
How did the interview go?
I did a fair amount of preparation answering practice questions for my interview. I think I did average, but I'm still an interview newbie, so take this with many grains of salt.
How strong would you say your essays were?
It turns out that I'm also an essay newbie. I've attached my essays in full (excluding information about people and places) at https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/pqxax90w743j1bfbn89qz/_-MIT-Short-Essays-Public-Edition.paper?dl=0&rlkey=xnil69d2dao2phy22d0gnwssp so that you can be the judge.
I may bet on this market, but it doesn't matter because the outcome of the market is beyond my control.

unasked for story time:
I got rejected from Stanford and Princeton (my 1st and 2nd choices), so I gave the bird to UCLA and Berkeley and took a full ride to UCSB, which was at the time just transitioning from notorious party school to serious high-value research institution where people still partied all day. Changed my life for the better, massively improved my social skills, gave me the opportunity to live in Japan for a year (which I likely wouldn't have had), and set me on a much more fulfilling path of creativity, travel, and (self-)exploration.
MIT? fuck 'em. the only people I know who went there are all arrogant pricks. you're better off, find your own beautiful life
@Andrewaae1 not determined to skip senior year, then? I figured you graduated and applied a bunch of places, but you're dedicated to MIT, huh?
that really sucks
@Andrewaae1 You have mind blowing qualifications, but I think it's so insanely competitive that it comes down to luck even for students with perfect qualifications. If the question was "will I excel in the future", I'd be a huge yes bettor. Sucks luck wasn't on your side here, but I'm sure you'll have a great college experience anyway.
@kindasus Idk if he has insider info; ftr, Andrew said he wouldn't announce his result until an hour later
It seems that I have lost the Google account that my Manifold market is based on. As a result, I have made this account. As evidence, I can provide my original deferral letter (as well as the fact that the market creator account has not bet for two days, losing a 100+ streak).
I will use this account to post my admissions decision; I will need a mod to resolve the market.
@Andrewaae1 3 days before Pi Day? There are lots of Andrew Lins. Sounds a bit fishy. I hope you recover your account...
@nathanwei If there is any reasonable proof that I can give, I will provide it to you. power creep can also verify that the Discord is accurate.
