Will I learn basic first aid before something goes wrong and I need to use that knowledge, either for myself or for someone else?
After talking to a couple search and rescue people, I don't feel a need to officially be an EMT, but I want to be able to self-rescue or at least stay alive until access to a doctor is possible.
Resolved to yes. I passed my WFR certification!

So far, I've found a few possible classes for next spring and am trying to get my house to join me.
@Lorenzo Hopefully I'll never fall into the "needs first aid" camp, but in the span of just a month, I or people I hike with have encountered grizzlies, been caught in thunderstorms, slid down steep slopes, run from moose, dodged rockfall, gotten lost in the dark, suffered altitude sickness, and gone to the emergency room. (It turned out to be nothing serious.) So I have plenty of incentives to learn first aid and be self-sufficient!
@dreev I'd extend the close date each year until I either learn first aid or need it. Thanks for clarifying!
