On its release in October/November, what will Github's 2026 Octobot report reveal are the top 10 most popular programming languages on the platform? and so most likely, in the world as a whole. If it makes the list then it resolves "Yes", otherwise "No".
If programming adjacent languages, such as markup languages are on the list, then they count too.

Over the last few years C#, Java, and PHP have been remarkably stable, maintaining their middle of the pack utilisation. Typescript overtook Javascript to establish Typescript and Python as 1st and 2nd place. C disappeared off the bottom of the top 10 rankings entirety, with HCL replacing it.
C++ lost one place to shell. It's unsurprising that it'd lose ground by this point, like C did, and in a similar vein, if Typescript is largely a better Javascript, then Javascript could equally slide down the rankings and out of use, but like with C++, this would probably take a while.
It'd be interesting to see a top 15, providing more room for movement. It's hard to imagine what new language would win over, for example, Go coders.
