It's undoubtedly kind of daft that huge compute centres of all kinds (not just the currently trendy ones), use what's not too dissimilar to household PC's in big grids, rather than a more custom solution to the orders of scale being applied. Specifically chips are thin and so in various obvious ways optimal to cool, as well as where all the heavy lifting happens, because we've got absurdly efficient at making them, so the obvious question is why not make them bigger and way more the central component of fewer computers and cut down on redundancy. Well it turns out that I'm not the only person to be thinking along these lines.
