The logic is probably - men like having sex, a lot of men would probably love to have sex with a hundred different hot women?

I mean the title says "ideal number of sex partners", which might make you think "well, a million, because sex!!!"

But the description has ""My ideal self, fully realized, self assured, without shame, would probably have had sex with _____ people.", which seems to mean more "if I was ideal, how many women would I end up practically having sex with", which I could see being much lower

@jacksonpolack it's the median, not the mean, which is extremely relevant here. Doesn't matter if 40% say 500 if the others say much lower numbers.

I think the average young man in current_year would - at least say they - would love to have sex with a hundred hot women over ten years if they could?

There's a lot of distance between that and the survey question for a bunch of reasons though

@jacksonpolack Again, it's NOT the average - it's the median, and I still don't think the average would be that high on the question you asked. I feel like a lot of people would rather have a couple faithful partners throughout 10 years than have 100 people who they don't care about that much.

I think a lot of people would, if they could arbitrarily choose outside existing social systems, both at the same time tbh.

The fact that it's linear and not log is really weird. Imo should be log between 2 and 100 or something like that. Linear between 20 and 200 means there's less payout for LOWER which could be skewing results

Back when I was about twenty, I got into a discussion with my best man about desirable sex partners. We were each able to list 100 that we wished we had enjoyed. He was a bit scandalized that is (very cute) sister was on my list.

I think the mean will be quite high by those who prefer a number tending towards infinite 😅

But think the median will be around 15-20

@ShadowyZephyr I mean in one of Buss’s seminal (lol) evopsych studies, he found ideal lifetime partners (granted not the same as “right now”) for men to be ~20 and for women ~5.

That's roughly 'how many partners should a society member have' or 'how many partners should my partner have', which is very different from 'ideally how many would i have'

a redpill person explicitly says something like 'its good if I bang 50 women but all the women i bang should have <5 partners', but a lot more people have implicit beliefs that resemble that a bit.
