Egyptian Museum (Grand Egyptian Museum): Strong. Its long-awaited full opening will be a major global cultural event, akin to a new Louvre.

Met gigantisch nieuw museum wil Egypte miljoenen nieuwe toeristen lokken

Canonization of Carlo Acutis: Significant for 1.3 billion Catholics and religion watchers, but likely a 1-2 day headline, not a week-long dominate-the-cycle story unless tied to a major papal event.

Eerste millennial heilig verklaard: 15-jarige wordt Sint Carlo Acutis

Medical: First approval of a therapeutic cancer vaccine for a common cancer.

Eerste testprikken met 'baanbrekend' longkankervaccin zijn gezet

A ceasefire goes into effect in the Israel-Hamas War. The conflict began some two years earlier when Hamas launched an assault on Israel from the Gaza Strip, killing more than 1,000 people and taking several hundred hostages. Israel subsequently declared war, and the fighting led to widespread destruction throughout the Gaza Strip and the deaths of tens of thousands of Gazans.

The Grand Egyptian Museum has its official opening ceremony. It is the largest archaeological museum in the world and is especially known for its extensive collection of items discovered in the tomb of King Tutankhamun.

Less likely:

A number of firsts also made headlines in 2025. Japan and Namibia inaugurated their first women heads of government—Sanae Takaichi and Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, respectively. On the space front, the first successful soft landing of a commercial lunar lander took place when Firefly Aerospace’s Blue Ghost touched down near Mare Crisium on the Moon. In religion, history was made as Sarah Mullally was the first woman to be appointed archbishop of Canterbury, and Leo XIV became the first American pope. And in the ocean, a colossal squid became a video star as the first of its species to be captured on film in its natural habitat.

Maybe:

Scientific Breakthroughs: A historic malaria vaccine has been developed, saving countless young lives in Africa, showcasing the potential of science to address global health challenges.

Maybe:

Technological Developments: The year has seen a surge in agentic AI technology, with companies like Nvidia and Intel experiencing mixed fortunes amid economic uncertainty. Notably, Hewlett Packard Enterprise completed a $13.4 billion acquisition of Juniper Networks, highlighting the ongoing consolidation in the tech industry.

This may be one of my sources for resolution:

https://theprogressnetwork.org/good-news-worldwide-2025/

The green sea turtle was reclassified as a “species of least concern,” after being close to extinction since the 1980s. Concern levels were downgraded for 20 other animal species this year as well.

Renewable energy was the world’s leading source of electricity in the first half of 2025 for the first time ever, knocking coal off its longtime throne.

Emerging economies started to take the lead in solar installation, the fastest-growing source of electricity the world has ever seen. This year there was even evidence of a solar take-off in Africa: multiple countries are importing solar panels at record levels.

Trials began for the first vaccine to prevent lung cancer.

Scientists saw the first sign that CAR T therapy could successfully treat solid tumor cancers when it eliminated them in mice. Human clinical trials for the therapy—which has transformed the treatment of blood cancers such as leukemia—are next.

A Phase 1 trial of an mRNA vaccine designed to prevent pancreatic cancer recurrences had promising results, with most patients mounting a robust immune response. Another study found that cancer patients who were administered the mRNA-based Covid-19 vaccine had nearly double the survival rate than those who did not.

Africa opened its first space agency, to both coordinate national space programs and boost weather data collection. It also opened its first drug regulation agency, raising the possibility that the continent’s genetic diversity will be included in clinical research and that drug developers will be more likely to conduct clinical trials there.

Georgia, Suriname, and Timor-Leste were certified malaria-free. Data from Cameroon, the first country to include a novel malaria vaccine in its routine immunizations, showed significant drops in hospitalizations and deaths of children under 5. And Swiss regulators approved the first malaria treatment specifically designed for babies and small children weighing less than 10 pounds.

Ambitious targets to vaccinate 86 million girls against cervical cancer in the countries where incidence is highest were reached early this year, preventing an estimated 1.4 million deaths.

One year has passed since the ouster of Syria’s former dictator, Bashar al-Assad. While the country’s path since has been bumpy, things are stabilizing.

The world’s largest camera, located at the Vera C. Rubin Observatory in Chile, released its first images: millions of galaxies, Milky Way stars, and thousands of asteroids. The observatory will be snapping photos of the night sky repeatedly for the next decade, building an unprecedented inventory of the solar system.

Economy resolves Yes due to Nvidia? Was in the news worldwide...

@Primer I will have to think about that. With all the bubble talk I'm hesitant.

At the moment I'm mostly watching if the Gaza ceasefire will hold. That would be my primary resolution.

Thanks for the comment!

@Primer I'll also consider the opening of the Egyptian museum. That was in all the news.

@uair01 Also, "Younger generations pushing for [...] social justice" (Gen Z protests in Nepal)

@uair01 Also, for economy: All the times Trump would suspend some tariffs made worldwide news.

@Primer Yes, as always resolution proves more difficult than one expected initially 😂

@uair01 Indeed. I suppose what you had in mind was more like surprising good news, for example like room temperatur superconductivity. But good news is scarce in general and from the examples in your description, I don't think you should be super strict.

In my opinion, opening of the Egyptian Museum definitely should count. Also, OpenAI, Intel, Microsoft, Nvidia, AMD, etc. have surely "Increased funding for research and development".

This is what Grok says at the moment. I will have to think about this. Using "personal availability bias" as a measure, I've missed most of these developments.
