FWIW Boichik is the Berkeley shop featured in the notorious NYT article saying california had the best bagels https://www.nytimes.com/2021/03/08/dining/best-bagels.html , about ~1mile from lighthaven.

they're quite good, although i have zero opinion on if they earn that particular reputation or if they're worth the trek
