I'm adding "throwing power and aim" just because I think it should be on the list and not because I think it's anywhere near the top of the list, I'm betting language up because what I find most impressive is our ability to communicate complex concepts. you could argue other animals have language, but humans are the only species able to discuss what the most impressive thing about humans is, for example. of course that example isn't that impressive because it's not a useful skill, but consider the ability to teach others a lessons without having to show them. animals have to learn through operant conditioning or watching the behaviors of other animals. the ways they can model the world are limited to the ways they can imagine the world existing. humans can just tell other humans what they've learned, I don't need to reinvent physics for myself cause I can just learn it from other humans, it's crazy to think about imo.
@bluerat I agree, I think it should be “ingenuity” because it allows us to create solutions and adapt to new circumstances or “language” because it allows us to share solutions. “the ability to switch niches” is the current top answer but it’s downstream from both of those aspects.
@TimothyJohnson5c16 I really like this answer, and hope it would be true/used to think this too, but I increasingly feels like humans are actually not doing a good job on this and needs so many conditions for empathy to trigger/work
@zyc True, but I also think it's hard to deny that the positive tail end of humanity has shown at least an order of magnitude higher capacity for empathy and moral circle expansion than any other species
@LiamZ That's because you bet NO on Other, which is equivalent to YES on everything else.
Then when new answers get added, your holdings are updated to YES on the options that existed at the time you placed your bet.
@TimothyJohnson5c16 Yeah, this is why. It could also be displayed as NO shares on the newly added options, but the outcome is the same.
I expect it was added after you bought NO on other, so you only have M171 in Ingenuity.
@Gen Interesting quirk, I bought NO on “other” specifically because I expected more options to be added and not because I wanted YES on the existing options at the time.
Edit: I straight up missed the little information icon and had noticed a previous option on another market that was similar but without this functionality. Good to know Manifold has this functionality bet and learn I guess.
