We take for granted here that the epistemic shock of something impossible happening wouldn't cause any major societal disturbances and that, after a few weeks, everyone would take the event for granted and have gotten used to it.

Pros:

  • Vast reduction in misogyny, sexual violence, and possibly even violence in general

  • Temporarily halted effects of human population growth on climate change, pollution, habitat destruction, and resource overconsumption

  • Slightly increased global life expectancy

  • Significantly reduced spread of some STDs

  • Gynecologists get double the business

Cons:

  • Sudden approx 18y deadline within which to set up global industrial scale voluntary artificial fertilisation before total demographic collapse of workforce begins

  • Possible breakdown of many previously stable heterosexual romantic relationships and resulting nuclear families

  • Mass sexual frustration of people attracted to men

  • Half the supply of gynecologists relative to population, and androcologists(?) now finding themselves redundant

Honestly kinda tough to call lol

Why would this be anything other than a disaster?

If the whole reproduction is by only spermbanks, that is a guaranteed way to reduce humanity size like several orders of magnitude.

So it's impossible to reproduce?

@SemioticRivalry Reproduction would still be possible, through e.g. vitro gametogenesis and sperm banks.

@singer would the next generation be also female only?
