This market is a commitment device to help me adhere to dietary buying rules in April 2026 to improve my NAFLD and IBS symptoms. Note: this is a highly personalized set of restrictions, not for everyone!
THE "NO-BUY" LIST
I must NOT buy the following items for my own consumption:
Drinks: All drinks containing sugar.
Meat: ground meat (mince/burgers), processed meats (sausages, salami, bacon, ham).
Sweets & Sugar: Candy, chocolate (incl. dark), sugar, honey, syrups.
Condiments: Sugary sauces (ketchup, BBQ, etc.) and sweet spreads (jams, nut butters with sugar).
Canned food: Any canned food.
Processed Food: Highly processed / ready-to-eat meals, deep- fried food.
Dairy: High-Fat cheese or creme.
Grains: All flours, baked goods, and pasta, except pure spelt flour and oats.
Fruit: Citrus fruits, dried fruits, sweet fruit purees (except allowed apple sauce).
THE FRUCTOSE BUDGET
I may buy fresh fruit (excl. citrus) or unsweetened apple sauce, subject to these limits:
Scope: This budget applies to fruit only. Fructose from vegetables is exempt.
Total Budget: Max. ~150g fructose per week.
Calculation: Calculation via app/AI or nutrition labels.
Apple sauce: Max 750g of unsweetened apple sauce per week (≈90g fructose).
EXEMTIONS + EXCEPTIONS
Non-consumtion: Rules don't apply when buying food I don't consume, unless I know I'll eventually consume it after April.
Cheat-day: I may buy one restricted item on every Thursday.
RESOLUTION CRITERIA
Reporting: Honor System.
Failure: If I knowingly buy a restricted item (outside exceptions) or consume an accidental purchase, the market resolves NO.
Success: If I adhere to these rules until May 1, 2026, the market resolves YES.
Changes: Rules will not be changed to make the protocol easier. "Bugfixes" (clarifications/friction reduction) are permitted.
