How do you count train rides that are no longer possible and you travel on a separate date?

 so my instinct is just to say hours I arrived later than originally scheduled. If I have to stop to sleep and continue on the next day, then that's just a lot of delay.

I am open to subtracting the time when I am sleeping from the tally, if people prefer that. 

I am taking about 6 or 7 train trips through Europe this summer. Most of them involve DB in some way and are fairly long-distance (8+ hours). How much will I be delayed over all of these trips?
