I bet YES, but considering the possibility that the app will be part of Instagram and not an independent app.

However, despite its initial high download numbers and Twitter usage decline, Threads has struggled to retain its users (Business Insider). As reported by the NY Post, the app's traffic has dropped by 80% as of October 4th, leading to even top brands and celebrities stopping their posts. Although the agency Insider Intelligence predicts that Threads will have 23.7 million active monthly users in the US by the end of 2023, this is significantly lower than X's forecast of 56.1 million users forecasted by the same agency, as stated by The Verge.

Meta has a track record of integrating features into its social media platforms. Messenger was separated from Facebook in 2014 but is now being reintegrated (The Verge). Repeating the same strategy, Meta could add Threads as an Instagram feature.

X rebranding may be bad IMO. @peterthiel thinks that brand is one of the foundation of a company (he says ~“I don’t understand quite how this works”). I have a sense X may be a “shot in the knee”; Twitter brand identity was one of the swiftest: dynamic, light, cute, electric blue, friendly; flexible in application having verbs and nouns in its diction: Tweet, Tweeting. I am a fun of big brave changes as any project will suffer from foundation paralisis. My impressions are like 4x down rn, wish this project n @elonmusk well as I agree with @parislemon that Twitter was probably the most successful intelligence network ever created.

predicts YES

I'm not convinced that Threads, internally, is solely positioned as a competitor to Twitter. The strongest part of it IMO is the connection with Instagram. It’s Instagram’s discourse sibling. Given the substantial discourse already occurring on Instagram—through comments, text in images, or narrated videos—this could be a promising avenue. However, it's far from perfect. Text-based discussions offer a significant potential for growth and scalability, something that comments alone can't achieve. There are certainly ways to scale Threads, but I have a sense Meta might overly fixated on wining with Twitter by emulating their platform. This has been their approach when dealing with competitors in the past.

predicts YES

Predicting YES because Elon Musk is simply a genius. The level of execution he got on Tesla is simply insane. The level of execution he got at Space X is simply insane. He has IMO very flexible mind and has good chances for finding top-level execution in Twitter as well. Threads are having IMO slim chances winning with Twitter.

Predicting YES because a random commenter on Twitter said so 😂

predicts NO

From Alex Valaitis:

🔮Prediction: Zuck's new app will be shut down in 12 months or less.

To get even more specific, I believe that 🧵's will be integrated back into the Instagram product as a feature.

Similar to how Stories and Reels exist on Instagram.

@pav How will you resolve this question if Threads is integrated into the Instagram product as a feature?

predicts YES

@LukeHanks If it is the same product under Instagram app I will resolve to NO but if it is radically scaled down I will resolve YES.

predicts YES

I think there is 35% of chance so betting YES

predicts NO

@pav It's at 22% now. Why not buy more YES?

How discontinued does it need to be? Must it be shut down and inaccessible? Or is it sufficient if it's no longer actively in development and abandoned?

predicts YES

@NLeseul Thanks. Updated the explanation

The launch has been pretty successful and Twitter is not doing well. Why would Threads be discontinued?
