This market will resolve as YES if the Matrix network is officially used for chatting instead of Discord, or using it by having a bidirectional Discord bridge, before EOY 2023. This market is independent of the comments feature on the Manifold app.

@o That's a pretty big change! How official does the bridge need to be? Does Manifold need to run the homeserver that the bridged room connects to? Operate an alias? Operate the bot itself?
@wasabipesto It think it should qualify as YES if the whole public discord is bidrectionally bridged to the Matrix network and officially intended to be so. That would be sufficient functionally - Manifold wouldn't need to directly run a homeserver or the bridge. About the changing the market's info, I thought it was clear from the previous info that it was concerning the chat platform and not the comments, but I realize it might have been ambiguous hence the clarification.
I assume it's this thing? https://matrix.org/ E2E encryption is not especially important to our team atm; my best guess is we'd build chat ourselves internally, followed by some other off-the-shelf, more popular library. Would be nice to know if there are example apps that make really good use of Matrix, though!
@Austin The likeliest 'yes' resolution to this market that I foresaw is a bridge being provided between Discord and Matrix, allowing the community chat to work with over an open network and thereby other platforms too.
@o Oh huh, that would be really cool, to be able to have chat interop with Discord. Updating slightly!
@Austin As much as I love matrix, I don't think manifold is a good use case. If you want to integrate discord chat into groups/markets it's simpler to do that without a third platform being involved. For instance you could set up a new Forum channel where every topic is a manifold group and mirror the chats between them. Users could then run their own matrix <-> discord bridges, if they so choose, to access the discord channels.
I use matrix as my primary chat application and have run my own homeserver, bridges, and applications on matrix, so I know how finnicky the software can be. I don't think it would fit well in Manifold's stack.
