Variety has put Spider-Verse on the Best Picture shortlist.
Only 3 animated films have ever received a Best Picture nom. The first was Beauty and the Beast in 1991. Up and Toy Story 3 were nominated for 2009 and 2010. (These were the first two years after the slate was expanded from 5 to 10 films, a change inspired largely by the backlash when WALL-E didn't make the list in 2008.)
But since then the Academy has returned to its old habit of treating animated films like an afterthought. If they didn't break the streak for the first Spider-Verse it's hard to think they'll start now.
