NO

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024) opens May 10th, 2024. The previous movies have made quite a bit of money, data per TheNumbers all domestic totals:

  • Rise of the Planet of the Apes: $176.8M

  • Dawn of the Planet of the Apes: $208.5M

  • War for the Planet of the Apes: $146.8M

Will Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes make less money than War for…, the lowest grossing film in the series (only including the most recent series), at the domestic box office?

This will Resolve when Kingdom of… passes the third film at the domestic box office, when the 4th films is out of theaters, or when this is deemed to be mathematically impossible.

Since Matty B is inactive on Manifold and this market will probably be resolved by a mod, I'm clarifying that it will resolve based on domestic totals, not worldwide.

@mattyb I have a doubt with respect to the description.

You are asking 2 different questions, one with respect to domestic and one with respect to worldwide box office. Will this question be resolved according to the film's position in this series in terms of domestic box office or worldwide?

There might be 2 different answers the way the box office is looking right now. I thought initially that domestic box office was being considered as you mentioned the domestic BO totals of the past films, but the final paragraph directly contradicts that.

@VaibhavGupta Unfortunately mattyb is off the site, so a mod will have to resolve this question.

But this is unambiguously about domestic box office, and "worldwide" is a typo. He makes a bunch of explicit references:

  • He cites the exact domestic numbers for resolution (this is the key point—the numbers in the description are how you determine resolution).

  • He uses the word "domestic" twice ("worldwide" is just that single typo).

  • He says that this resolves based on whether it passes "War". That's only true for domestic—for WW total, "Rise" would be the lowest grosser that needs to be surpassed.

So there's a single typo for "worldwide" (common enough mistake), and then a whole bunch of specific references that make it clear that this is about domestic. So a mod will have to resolve this when it's time, but it should resolve based on the domestic gross.

@Ziddletwix If anyone gets confused by this, we could ask a mod to put "domestic" into the title to help clear up any ambiguity? (I'm not sure if mods can edit descriptions).

@mods would you mind adding "domestic" to the title of this mattyb question to avoid any possible confusion? (See my above description for why "worldwide" is a typo and this is definitely about the domestic gross)

@Ziddletwix I've added "domestic" to the title and added a pinned comment clarifying that this is about the domestic market. I'll ask an admin to modify the description.

EDIT: Thanks @Joshua!

@Gabrielle Awesome, thank you!

@Ziddletwix @mods mattyb market, this can now resolve NO. Kingdom of the planet of the apes has reached ~149m, well above the 146.8m that was the previous franchise low (domestic) in the description

I have seen the movie and all three others. War of planet of apes released when the hype was gone. Now it's been 10 years, and they introduced a warrior girl. So I don't think it will gross lower than War. I don't want some one lose much mana. But I'm happy to lose my mana if reality goes on another track.
