To be determined by bechdeltest.com, who gives a binary score for each movie. Once Bechdel Test puts up a score for a movie, it will immediately Resolve.

If a film is delayed past 2024, it will Resolve N/A.

More info on the Bechdel Test itself:

The Bechdel Test, or Bechdel-Wallace Test, sometimes called the Mo Movie Measure or Bechdel Rule is a simple test which names the following three criteria: (1) it has to have at least two women in it, who (2) who talk to each other, about (3) something besides a man. The test was popularized by Alison Bechdel's comic, the name of which Google won't let me put on this page for inciting hate, in a 1985 strip called The Rule.

@mattyb you popping back up was a good reminder to loop back to this great market. looks like deadpool 3 & kingdom of the planet of the apes are NOs. RIP.

(of course godzilla x kong passed the bechdel testβ€”easily the most thoughtful & sensitive monkey movie)

The 2024 movies have been updated!

@mattyb lol i forgot to bet more on GxK here even not knowing their resolution it crushes the bechdel test tbh, multiple clear conversations (including one interrupted by that car commercial shot)

I almost forgot, but don't worry, I added this market to my GODZILLA X KONG MEGA-DASHBOARD. Soon, the world will knowβ€”does GODZILLA X KONG pass the bechdel test.

never heard about this test before but super cool

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes

This is not a guarantee (I’m not too familiar with the website), but from a glance at the previous trilogy it SEEEMS like by precedent they would have counted a named female ape (i.e. doesn’t need to be human). I thought this might be a lock for NO (since there’s only one human character IIUC) but seems uncertain assuming apes count.

@Ziddletwix oh i didn’t even think about the apes angle. All 3 of the Matt Reeves trilogy films failed the test. I wonder if they’d count female ape : ape as women? I would assume so, like they’d count lions for Lion King, or fish for Little Mermaid

@mattyb I think they do. Only basing this on a glance at the comment section, but it seems like they were debating some orangutan in a prev film (the orangutan was found to be male, but by having the discussion in the first place I’m assuming a named female ape could count).

@Ziddletwix There's an even worse problem for Godzilla. Godzilla is ungendered in Japanese and must be biologically female or hermaphroditic when laying eggs (but given male pronouns in English) https://www.thegamer.com/godzilla-gojira-gender-male-female-nonbinary-vs-kong/. Is Godzilla Vs Kong really "dude-centric" in the first place? I would never refer to Kong as a dude either.

@Ramble I assumed they were both dudes πŸ˜“, but the egg argument makes a lot of sense. Godzilla doesn’t talk, so there’s no risk of the kaiju chatting with another women about something other than men.

This one will likely come down to the human characters

@Ramble Going off the Monsters universe Wiki (Gojipedia), Kong is referred to using male pronouns:

While maintaining the same overall design from Godzilla vs Kong, Kong's beard has grown slightly longer and greyer, and he retains the scars gained from Godzilla's mauling in Hong Kong. Notably, the fur around his shoulders and upper back has grown denser and more pronounced. At some point, in the film, Kong is fitted with a yellow mechanical brace called the B.E.A.S.T. Glove on his right forearm for an unknown reason.

But so is Godzilla

Godzilla originally gained his true name from the Pacific islanders, who referred to him as "Gojira". According to Eiji Serizawa, "Gojira" is a Japanese conjunction of gorira (γ‚΄γƒͺラ?), meaning "gorilla", and kujira (ι―¨ or クジラ), meaning "whale", as with most incarnations of the name. Ishiro Serizawaalso refers to him as "Gojira", before "Godzilla" is formally used. With that said, most of the English-speaking characters gradually begin to describe him as "Godzilla" throughout the film's events.

I think I’m going to rule this one as a Dude v. Dude after all
