AMC Theaters hold Screen Unseen showings, where you don’t know what movie you’re seeing going in, but are assured that the movie hasn’t been shown in an AMC Theater before.

You’re given 2 pieces of information: the film’s rating, and its length (often obfuscated slightly by +/- 10minutes). This movie will be R-rated and ~2hrs 3mind long.

What movie am I seeing on Monday, October 7th, 2024?

I will be betting here, but the market will close before the showing, so I will only be betting blind. If for any reason I don’t make the screening, this market will Resolve N/A.

Past Unseens I’ve seen:

  • Slingshot [Aug 26th], reported time was 3mins shorter

  • Skincare [Aug 12th], reported time was 5mins longer

  • Kneecap [July 22nd], reported time was 8mins longer

  • Sing Sing [July 15th], reported time was 8mins longer

  • The Bikeriders [June 17th], reported time was 7mins longer

  • Babes [May 13th], reported time was 11mins longer

ok, so the subtext here is that Ziddle and I found out that Reddit tracks this, and it’s public info once the east coast screenings begin.

i’ll do this again and i’ll close it 3hrs earlier. it was Exhibiting Forgiveness

@mattyb luckily skimming the thread, it looks like even the reddit commenters didn't have a great sense of what it would be before the east coast showtimes. so there's plenty of mystery left, and it's really hard to narrow these down

@Ziddletwix if anything this proves how good a market on these grab bag screenings are! just needs to be run more fairly

@mattyb What'd you think of the movie?

@asmith i liked it! would’ve preferred The Apprentice, or Anora, but this was an enjoyable watch

Saw a trailer for We Live in Time, and Nickel Boys

@mattyb the average age of the audience is nearing 60 excluding me

@mattyb i kinda hope it’s Terrifier and it scares the shit out of us

bought Ṁ15 Other NO

I’m going to be seeing this movie in 2hrs and was damn near certain that it was Smile 2 until @Ziddletwix bet that down to 0… What am I seeing tonight?

bought Ṁ25 Other YES
Smile 2 [2hrs 7mins, releases Oct 18th]
opened a Ṁ250 Smile 2 [2hrs 7mins,... NO at 20% order

@mattyb NO limit up at 25% (can share after why i'm guessing it isn't smile but i could very easily be wrong)

bought Ṁ150 Other YES

ok actually due to east coast showtimes that takes some of the suspense away. the NO on smile was because IIUC, it looks like AMC titles it "scream unseen" when it's a horror movie, to avoid non-horror fans being surprised? at least heard that in passing

@Ziddletwix WHAT AM I SEEING THEN?!?!

The Apprentice [2hrs 0min, releases Oct 11th]

@Ziddletwix Ooooooo that’d be hype

opened a Ṁ100 Other YES at 32% order

@Ziddletwix anyone wanna give me some YES shares on other, i can add a couple more to the market

i can't imagine it would be but i think the most amusing option would be "Terrifier 3" as that'd be a hilarious pick for an unprepared audience (R rated + right length!)

ok second funniest option would be "My Hero Academia the Movie: You’re Next"

bought Ṁ20 Other NO

@Ziddletwix i bought NO into you

This movie will be R-rated and ~2hrs 3mind long

and the film’s length (often obfuscated slightly by +/- 10minutes)

Does this not mean it can't be Anora, Saturday Night, We Live in Time, and Saw? @mattyb

or does "often obfuscated" not mean "sometimes not obfuscated, and sometimes obfuscated by +/- 10 minutes, but never more"

@Bayesian honestly, I don’t know! There’s no like hard or fast rules here; AMC doesn’t tell you much until the movie begins.

I really don’t think it’ll be We Live in Time or Saturday Night, because I’ve seen both. But both of those screenings are early/live Q&A, so who knows!

As for the length, I just got the +/- 10mins from seeing a few of these now. That was never published anywhere.

@mattyb makes sense, thanks.

@Bayesian ok, i reported all of the time diffs as well. basically all that data that i can share!
