Will Gen Z consider Apple's Genmoji to be "boomer cringe"?

Genmoji are coming: https://9to5mac.com/2024/06/10/theres-an-emoji-for-that-meet-genmoji/

This will obviously resolve based on vibes, TBD how exactly (I'm a Millenial myself).

Potential criteria for NO:

  • I receive a Genmoji as part of an organic chat conversation from three distinct Gen Z members until the end of 2025. (This could be tricky, since I know roughly 2 Gen Z members and I only use iMessage with one of them.)

  • Genmoji start being used on TikTok unironically. (This could also be tricky; I'm not really on there.)

Potential criteria for YES:

  • Highly significant study results (has to be presented in a peer-reviewed article published by a major sociological journal)

  • #genmoji starts trending in a generally cringey/ironic neighborhood of semantic space on TikTok (I'll definitely not be doing the analysis myself; again, I'm not there.)

  • Compelling argument in the comments by verified or at least plausible Gen Z members. If you pose as Gen Z, I will be very disappointed.

Out of scope:

  • Meta AI stickers, Dall-E etc. – it has to be actual factual Genmoji.

Resolves as N/A if they'll be largely regarded as Millenial or Gen X cringe (feel free to open a parallel market!), or if either no or every generational cohort ends up using them equally.

See, these are the important cultural questions. I'm Gen Z and I'm certain I will be jealous of the iphone users for their unhinged creations. Possible situations in which boomerishness reaches critical mass may occur if unpopular political or bigoted statements are punctuated with genmojis or 'hip' corporations adopt them as unofficial mascots. On the other hand, this raises the bar for suggestive emoji-innuendo far beyond the pedestrian options available today, and visual metaphors seem like the perfect vehicle for our brand of humor. I will be watching carefully. 🤔

Oh, forgot to mention, I won't be trading myself, but I would like to use this opportunity to have it known that I find Memoji highly cringeworthy. I'm more of a Bitmoji guy. I haven't made up my mind yet on Genmoji, but I've had hours of fun with Google's Emoji Kitchen. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
