I took SSRI's a a kid (didn't work), tried bupropion without prescription (didn't work).
I know some psychopharmacology and plan on convincing the new psychiatrist that MAOI is the best class of antidepressants for me, despite being rarely prescribed as a first-line treatment (usually only after 2 other classes failed).

None of this is in any way medical advice, and even if I was a MD doctor not a PhD one, I am not your doctor. That said, a history of treatment resistant depression, possibly including social phobia or panic attacks are some examples of situations where doctors might consider MAOIs. The side effects and dietary restrictions are no joke, if that's the way you go.
@WilliamGunn are dietary restrictions also a problem with RIMAs? (Also yes I do have a history of social phobia and panic attacks.)
