This market will resolve to “Yes” if "The Respect for Marriage Act" (H.R.8404, https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/house-bill/8404) passes the U.S. Senate on the first vote.

If H.R.8404 is rejected by U.S. Senate on the first vote or if there is no vote held and finalized before December 31, 2023, this market will resolve to "No."

The Respect for Marriage Act (H.R. 8404) is a proposed bill in the United States Congress to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act and to require the U.S. federal government to recognize the validity of same-sex marriages and interracial marriages. The Defense of Marriage Act is a bill former President Clinton signed into law in 1996 that recognized marriage as “only a legal union between one man and one woman as husband and wife” and allowed states to refuse to recognize same-sex marriages granted under the laws of other states.

In July 2022, the Respect for Marriage Act was reintroduced to Congress with revisions, including protections for interracial marriages. The Act passed the House in a bipartisan vote (267-157) on July 19, 2022.
