This market predicts the monthly cost of the USDA Moderate-Cost Food Plan for an illustrative four-person family in the August 2027 report.
The family consists of:
Male, age 19–50
Female, age 19–50
Child, age 6–8
Child, age 9–11
The outcome will be calculated by adding the four monthly Moderate-Cost Plan amounts published in the USDA's August 2027 Official USDA Food Plans: Cost of Food at Home at Three Levels, U.S. Average report.
Because this is a four-person household, no household-size adjustment will be applied. This covers food prepared at home and excludes restaurant meals, takeout, alcohol, and household supplies.
For reference, the corresponding total in the May 2026 report was $1,386.70: male 19–50 $397.00, female 19–50 $335.60, child 6–8 $304.30, and child 9–11 $349.80. A simple projection using 2.9% food-at-home inflation gives approximately $1,426.91.
Resolution
Resolve to the bucket containing the calculated total from the USDA's initially published August 2027 report. If the report is delayed, the market will remain unresolved until it is published. If the USDA permanently discontinues the Moderate-Cost Plan before publishing an August 2027 value, resolve N/A.
